My Story

New photo taken today after hair dyed! Previous photo when I dyed it in 2020. Silence began at 7pm 16th November.

Many thanks to all my generous donors. Target nearly reached! A very generous friend is going to match fund donations received so the total will definitely exceed £1000!

This is a sponsored event that I'm planning for World Prematurity Day this year. The date is November 17th 2023.

I'm a Neonatal nurse at Queen Alexandra Portsmouth. A few years ago I decided to try to raise money for the unit on a sponsored event. I can't do anything extreme like a sky dive or abseil down the Spinnaker Tower & decided a 24 hour silence was a challenge I could attempt. All who know me realise how difficult this is!!

Since then I have also had a 24 hour fast & dyed my hair purple. I've been very well supported by friends, family, colleagues & many lovely families of our inpatients and graduates.

This will be my last sponsored event as I will retire next year as I will reach 66! That's why I'm dyeing my hair & going silent for 24 hours!

There are always extra pieces of equipment we need to support the babies and families. In particular we need more comfortable chairs for parents to use to facilitate breastfeeding or bottle feeding their babies.
